So you’re scrolling through Zatu Books wondering what your next obsession should be? Whether you’re all about swoony love stories, epic fantasy throwdowns, or time-jumping superheroes, we’ve got the perfect line-up for you. These five teen and young adult reads are basically required reading for your cosy book corner (or the floor of your messy room - we’re not judging).
Let’s get into it, shall we?
1. Paper Towns by John Green
If you’ve ever been ghosted by your crush but still somehow ended up on a cross-country road trip to find them… yeah, Paper Towns gets you. John Green serves up another smart, funny, teen feels-heavy novel where nerdy sweet boy Q gets swept into Margo Roth Spiegelman’s whirlwind life. She disappears, and all he’s got are a bunch of vague clues and a lot of hope.
This one’s got heart, humour, and just enough mystery to keep you glued till the very end. Oh—and it makes you rethink how well you really know someone.
2. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
You knew this one was coming. The classic. The tearjerker. The reason we all stared out rainy windows for a while as a teen.
Hazel and Augustus are two teens who meet at a cancer support group and end up sharing a love story that’s both hilarious and heartbreakingly beautiful. They bond over a fictional book that they obsess over (relatable), and what follows is part romance, part tragedy, and fully unforgettable. (it's over 4 stars on Goodreads for a reason...)
3. Looking For Alaska by John Green
Okay, yes - this is another John Green novel, but hear us out. Looking For Alaska is about Miles “Pudge” Halter, who heads off to boarding school in search of “the Great Perhaps” and instead finds Alaska Young - brilliant, mysterious, and totally chaotic.
Things get real, though. This book tackles grief, guilt, love and growing up in a way that hits you in the gut but also makes you think. It’s raw, it’s real and it’s definitely one for the “books that changed me” list.
4. Lightlark: Collector’s Edition by Alex Aster
If you’re into fantasy worlds where everyone’s got powers, secrets, and at least one tragic backstory—Lightlark is gonna be your new obsession. Every hundred years, rulers from cursed realms have to battle it out in a deadly competition called the Centennial, and Isla, our main girl, might just be hiding the most dangerous secret of all.
This Collector’s Edition brings bonus content, gorgeous extras, and all the dramatic, slow-burn tension your fantasy-loving heart could want. Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass or The Hunger Games, but like, with more magic and hotter enemies.
5. Captain Carter: Woman Out of Time by Jamie McKelvie & Jamie L. Rotante
Let’s flip the Marvel script. What if Peggy Carter, not Steve Rogers, took the super serum? That’s what Captain Carter: Woman Out of Time is all about—and yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.
After being frozen in ice and waking up in the modern world, Peggy's got to deal with social media, advanced tech, and, oh yeah—kicking butt in a totally new era. This graphic novel is packed with action, sass, and some surprisingly deep themes about identity, belonging, and who gets to wear the stars and stripes.
